Interesting point here, Ian which I think you could include in your thesis. By believing in someone, you'll naturally have an inclination to want to help them. Therefore, your assertion of our success will be somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's a problem, academically, because the experiment in some ways becomes affected by the observer (you). But, it does point to one of the potential factors of success: mainly, the ability of an individual/company to mobilize those around them for support. Aside from my stubborness, my peers have been by far the most important factor so far.

Thanks for the kind words Brad. The intention is to continue to watch AdJoy grow and succeed. Heck I am trusting AdJoy's continued success as part of my PhD thesis on spotting great start-up cultural DNA very early on. :)

Your main point is bang-on: collaboration is essential.

I also want to emphasize another theme in the post: collaboration with outsiders is essential.

A person, company, community, or industry will thrive only if it embraces innovation and innovation more often than not comes from an outsider. If a person or company is only willing to collaborate with the same familiar faces, the end result is inevitable. If a person or company is not looking beyond its own ranks for the next big thing, it is already dead.

'Every man for himself' is hardly ever an effective social battle cry. The concept of 'it takes a village..' on the other hand is a proven winner. Although not the head of a major(or minor!) corporation I feel it neccssary to point out the flip side of this responsibility. As consumers it behooves us to do our homework. All well and good to place it all on the umbiquous head of some faceless organization, but where is your own contribution. If faced with two products, how do decide? Packaging? Careful there. What about the policies of the company? Do the profits in total go to vacations in Tibet? OR do partial proceeds go to found an infirmary in Tibet? Collabarate or die is indeed the answer, as long as all are aware of their parts.

Dear "You daddy" (diddy@gmail.com)

Just as I wouldn't come into your house or interrupt your conversation with a mindless insult, please don't do that here.

However, if you are capable of forming insightful opinions somewhere in your cerebral vastness and molding them into coherent sentences (including any constructive criticism) by all means please expound.

Sincerely,

Brad
